The SU Universe is a single multiverse that is within continuity. That means that all stories that are in the official SU Universe can tie into many others. Continuity stories are harder to write than Other Happenings stories because an attention to continuity detail must be had by the author and it generally requires more careful research and perhaps a few e-mails to other authors and creators of characters. it can be very rewarding though to see as story you wrote take place in the SU Universe and other stories refrence it or be inspired by it.
Follow these rules to keep things working smoothly for authors and remember, don't be afraid to post a story. If its your first time writing, you might want to try an Other Happenings or out of continuity story first. Rules for them can be found at here. Don't worry about how good your story is. The goal behind SU is to help prospective writers get noticed, but even more than that, its to just have fun with friends. Write a story.
1. To get characters for a story, the writer must post a request for characters on the message boards in the general SU forum. The writer can request all new characters, specific characters, or just characters in general. Creators must give their permission for characters to appear in a story. If the creator does not object or has abdoned their character by not posting or participating in SU for a while, that character can be used in any SU, though the creator still holds copyright on the character.
2. The writer must ask the creator of a character permission to kill his character in order to do so in his story.
3. If a character dies in a continuity based story (be it Castfire, Landslyde, whomever) that character is PERMANENTLY dead and is not allowed to be entered into any other SU Continuity story (although dead characters can still be entered into tournaments and elseworlds).
4. Any and all SU Continuity stories must be translated to the SU website for storage, so that different writers can refer to old stories to keep everything connected. Those stories when then be placed on the web site for refrence.
5. No character exists in SU continuity until he or she is introduced in a new story (that means, even though we've all come to know and love characters like Suntrion and Omni, they don't exist in the new continuity until a story is written with them in it). Even if a new character is introduced in a tournament or elseworlds story, he does not exist in SU Continuity unless he is first introduced in a continuity based story.
6. Stories and events must be considered fact and translate to new continuity based stories. This means, for example, say Landslyde loses his arm in one SU Continuity story, well, in the next story he must be written in with his arm still missing.
7. Only ONE SU Continuity story is allowed to be going at once. In other words, two message boarders can't be writing two separate stories that they claim to be in continuity at the same time, as that would create confusion. If someone has the burning desire to write a SU Continuity story, then he must 'call it' while the current story is being written. Then, after the current story is completed, the person that 'called it' will be allowed to begin his continuity based story. However, as many tournaments and elseworlds as everyone likes are allowed to be going on at the same time as a SU Continuity story. The current line up of writers up to the next 10 will be on the site. To request a place on the list, post on the message boards.
8. Anyone who writes a SU Continuity story MUST be willing to finish it and cannot leave it once he has begun. Also, the story should be completed within a reasonable time to allow other members the chance to write their own continuity based story. Stories are expected to be completed in two to three weeks.
9. Stories in continuity, depending on the writer's preference, can range from starring one single character battling street level thugs, to a plethora of heroes battling a cosmic foe.
10. Stories in continuity must put a next to the title to verify that it is indeed an in continuity based story.
